The Torch – Poem by Arnold Friedman

The Torch

It is now [70] years since Jewish life in Europe was extinguished……….

6 000 000 of our fathers and mothers, our old people and our children were slaughtered in the streets, in the forests, starved in the ghettos and murdered in the gas chambers of Auschwitz.

[70] years —. Our youngest survivors are now in the 80’s, who will carry the Torch of Remembrance to assure future generations of a Jewish future in a volatile barbaric world?

[77] years—. And anti-Semitism is again spewing from the frothing mouths of hatemongers.

No – I am not paranoid – Yes! I am traumatized with the fear for our future generations, considering that 200 year old Jewish history of integrated established Jewish community was cannibalized and destroyed in a short 6 years by a civilized barbarian Europe while an indifferent world stood by in silence…..

YES….. IT TOOK ONLY 6 SHORT YEARS FOR A 20TH CENTURY EUROPE TO FALL BACK TO THE DARK AGES,

Am I paranoid? When I see that after Hitler’s Holocaust it has become normal to sacrifice minorities, whether in Asia, Africa, or Europe…. The UN much like the LEAGUE OF NATIONS is as solid as a weather balloon in a windstorm…. While International truth and justice is but a “Popularity Contest” of power gangs!…We survivors can testify to that horrible past,—-it is you of the future who must take the Torch of Vigilance to protect the future of Jewish survival… Chazak V’amatz.
